On my way to Washington for an interview with ARM, I had a layover in Phoenix I was amazed that Phoenix was so massive (and flat) -- it's a huge city The weather was perfect during the flight from Phoenix to Seattle; we flew over Sedona, shown below This is still Arizona despite all the snow The east side of the Grand Canyon The Grand Canyon from 33,000 feet The erosion from the Colorado river looks like the remnants of an earthquake I was expecting only clouds when flying into Seattle, but the clouds were pretty high up so I got some good pics of the city We passed by the Seattle Space Needle; despite what you may think, it is not the tallest building in Seattle ... not even close Downtown Seattle with the Space Needle in the background Near the Seattle-Tacoma airport On my way to Olympia for my interview with ARM. My rental car was a Toyota Prius. After the interview in Olympia, I went and visited my friends Nitin and Carolina in Seattle. They live two blocks from the Space Needle; this is a picture from their balcony The same angle but in the morning. It snowed during the night and it was about 22 degrees outside. Construction across the street from Nitin and Carolina's apartment Snow! Yet another pic of the space needle --- actually, I was just fascinated with the snow Snow falling from the buildings and trees when the wind picked up It was cold Pike Place Market It's a neat place to visit and is kind of like a farmer's market with a ton of seafood It's also home to Starbucks' first store At this store, they retain the original Starbucks logo 1912 is the address, not the year. The first Starbucks store opened in 1971. Nearby Starbucks is Beecher's Handmade Cheese I bought a grilled cheese sandwich here for lunch The last picture of the space needle ... I promise Pic from atop the space needle looking west over Elliott Bay Downtown Seattle
